What can you do if you fall asleep on your desk?

Tricks and tips to keep you ‘active’ when feeling sleepy


On a late Friday afternoon, looking forward to the weekend, only a couple of hours more to go, and idea popped into my head!!! (which normally doesn’t happen while I am ‘working’! )

What kind of methods or tricks can you use when you are bored at work and have the feeling that you are going to fall asleep any second?

C’mon…. I am sure that 99.8% of you go through this on a weekly (maybe even daily) basis.

There are 5 ways that I can share with you, which might help you be more active and not feeling that weezy, sleepy in the afternoon while at work. When its weekend we never feel sleepy!!

Eat a healty Breakfast: As you probably have heard from Mum, Dad, Grandfather, Grandmother, Neighbour, Uncle, Boss, Collegues and in some cases a guy/girl on the telephone that does some kind of survey and then trying to sell you something…. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!!!
Having a good breakfast gives you more alertness and concentration. Do not overdue it as a breaky with too many fats could make you fall asleep on the spot…

Eat a light lunch: Yep I have tried it and it works. Normally I don’t eat that much breakfast so I get hungry at noon time and go out for a big plate of pasta. When finished and getting back to the office, the first thing that goes through my mind is. Ooohh my god, how it would be good to have a little nap now! And Baanngg! You are back at the beginning! So eat light during lunch, Combine the different food groups.
Skip the sugary Snacks: When it turn 4pm, its time for a snack because you are starting to feel tired or even a bit hungry. Do not sprint to the vending machine to get that mars bar. The sugar rush in this only helps you for +/- 30 minutes. Once this rush is over, its back to sleepy time. You are even going to feel more tired then before…
Get Enough sleep: This is the most common step in the world. Get enough sleep and you wont be tired during the day, Don’t get enough sleep and sleep at work. (would actually make a good slogan!)
Don’t just sit there: when you have an desk job like I do, this doesn’t mean that you are stuck to the chair for the whole day, ( too the desk, YES, but not to the chair) Stand up from time to time and have a little walk. Take the time to annoy your Workmates and stretch your legs, let the blood circulate in your body.

There you go, I hope that you will all have the energy to last the whole day when you are working.
I have tried these 5 steps and seems to be working for me. ( not all the time, but its getting better! :)
